The Good, the Bad, and the Undiscovered #1

Every week Spotify produces a list of numbers I probably like, but don’t really know (read: have played so far). This goes under the title Discover Weekly. So far: thank you Spotify!

In this blog I pick three suggestions from this list: the good, the bad, and the undiscovered. A great song, one that I do not really like (why is it in this list?) and one that is completely unexpected.

The Good,

Or maybe this should be called ‘the Bad’, because Ryan Adams is one of the accused as a #metoo manipulator. But in this, completely musically based blog, he is the Good. Of course it is mainly his voice that grabs me by the throat. And no, it isn’t ‘My Sweet Carolina’, and yes, the structure is a bit straight: vocals, guitar solo, vocals, but what a beauty it is.

The Bad,

I don’t know what it is with R.E.M. It should be a band I like: guitars, american roots, intelligent songs. And yes, I like Everybody Hurts and the song where they put a man on the moon, but I don’t have the patience to listen to a complete album. And now the Gibson brothers cover this song, I tend to know why I can’t really stand it. The Gibson’s make it a MotR song. It can be played in any mediocre restaurant. So maybe it is just a boring song from an average band.

& The Undiscovered

I know Judy Collins from Both sides Now and Send in the Clowns. This one is totally different, a capella, volatile, and thus ephemeral. A bit Joni Mitchell. Don’t know what to think of it, but definitely a discovery. If only for the lyrics about a Mexican immigrant
:
This land was made by dreamers
And children of those dreamers
We came here for democracy and hope
Now all we have is hope
My name, it is Maria
My daughter is a dreamer
She says that she is worried
That she will have to leave

Trump, eat dust!
